About The Owners |
 |
A little information about the mother/daughter duo that are
the heart and soul of Brier Rose.
Coco
Bennett has been developing her eye for great horses almost
since birth. Raised in the Midwest
her
father, George Wood, was retired from the Cavalry and later
the Huntsman and Master of
Foxhounds for the famed Wayne DuPage Hunt. Starting with
riding and driving ponies in a
few
short year’s Coco took her love of galloping cross country
as Drag girl for her father’s Hunt
to
the winner’s circle of the Amateur Steeplechase Circuit.
She brings her many years of experience
of
Equestrian competition and Foxhunting to the management of
Briar Rose Farm.
Megan O’Brien has certainly followed in the footsteps of her
Grandfather and Mother. Riding
since age 3, Megan’s love of showing started in the lead
line class at the Wayne DuPage Fall Horse
Show
that same year. Megan’s Grandfather served as her coach and
mentor until age six when she
and
Coco relocated to Colorado.
Continuing her love of horses in the Rockies, Megan got her
first “real” show horse at age 10,
competing in the Children’s Hunter Division at “A” rated
horse shows under the watchful eye
of
coaches Dionne Dana and C.C. Allen. Not content to limit
herself, Megan also rode
Western Pleasure horses and dabbled in Combined Training.
During her last year as a Junior,
Megan returned to the Hunter/Jumper ring to compete in the
Equitation Division before aging out
and
moving up to the Adult Amateur Jumpers.
After relocating to Tryon in October of 1993. Megan and Coco
purchased the “fixer upper” that is
now
known as Brier Rose Sport Horses. Megan continued riding
and showing with some of the top professionals in the
Southeast with much success… all the while building the
Sport Horse breeding
program at Brier Rose.
Finally taking the plunge in 2002, Megan gave up her amateur
status and turned professional.
She
now concentrates on her Training and Lesson Programs at
Brier Rose, as well as getting
young horses ready for the show ring. Megan is available
for lessons at Brier Rose, also freelance
instructs and will coach you at shows!
